The new school year is off to a great start! Here are some of the highlights from this week…
Spending some quality time outside enjoying what might be the last warm weather for a while…
Sidewalk Chalk
Sidewalk Chalk
A returning favorite from Kamp Kidspace – Ice block painting.
Ice + Salt+ Watercolors = Tons of fun!
We read the children’s classic, Corduroy. In honor of this favorite we made teddy bears and experimented with texture by using different fabrics. How neat!
We also talked about friendship. What does it mean to be a friend?
A Friend Is…
“Someone that plays together.”
“Someone that plays with you a lot and likes you.”
“It means you need to be nice. A friend is someone to play with and have sleepovers.”
“Someone you like to play with”
“A friend is who you really like and want to play with. You go to their birthdays.”
“Friends play and watch cartoons together. You also do nice things for them.”
“Friend means being kind.”
“Friendship means being kind.”
“Sharing.”
“Sharing and hugging and making people feel better.”
“Playing.”
“Someone nice that plays with you.”
Last but not least…FLUBBER! This gooey stuff has been a huge hit in our classroom. It is truly a unique sensory experience. Here is the recipe…
In one container mix 1 1/2 cups warm water with 2 cups white glue and food coloring. In another container mix 3 teaspoons Borax with 1 1/3 cups warm water. Pour the mixtures together and gently life and turn the mixture until only about a tablespoon of liquid is left. Flubber will be sticky for a moment or two. Let excess liquid drip off and flubber will be ready. Store in an airtight container for about 3 weeks of use.
(Note: Flubber has a tendency to sometimes adhere to clothing. We have the children wear paint smocks when playing at this center.)
We can't wait to see what fun awaits us next week! Have a great weekend!
