Bluebirds March 22, 2012

Here's a little peek at some of the favorite activities this week in the Bluebird class.

The Bluebirds have been very creative with their use of the magnet blocks!

Wow! Look at the team work between these boys as they construct
towers and prepare to knock them over by throwing a ball.

We had a great time making a giant spider web.  We were practicing group co-operative skills.  Look what we can do when we all work together!

During art the children had an opportunity to create a shark out of paper.  They was so much interest we put together a little underwater center with books and ocean animals.  It has been a very popular center to visit during tub time.

The magnet blocks are popular with the boys and girls because they are so easy and fun to build with.  The children are extremely creative and find that building is not only fun, but also can be a bit challenging.  Children are experimenting daily with design, structure and the properties of physics and magnets.

Here, the child learned how to build a collapse-proof tower!

Drawing sharks is a great way to practice using circles and triangles.

Painting with marbles...

The new mats are very popular.

                                                              Sunny days were a treat!

Our weekly walk to gymnastics.

Last Friday, we followed the leprechaun's trail and found gold!

rainbow

"R" is for RAINBOW!

Take a look at the rainbows the children created by stacking paper from largest to smallest.

Thank you parents for your fruit contributions.  After laminating our paper rainbow we covered them with fruit.

Notice that we even practiced writing the word rainbow.

Purple grapes, blue blueberries, green grapes, yellow pineapple, orange oranges and red strawberries made a beautiful, colorful and tasty treat.

We learned about the colors of the rainbow, size sequencing and we gave our taste buds a treat!
Thanks to everyone for helping with this project.

Robins - March 26th - 30th

What an exciting week in the Robins class! It finally started to feel like spring! On Monday, we took advantage of the beautiful weather by opening up the patio. The children basked in the sun and drew vibrant chalk pictures on the sidewalk...

We took of our shoes and traced our feet...

A few of the kids drew a race track for their cars...how creative!

We also had fun playing in the water table...

The letter of the week was "R" for rainbow. The book, "Planting a Rainbow," by Lois Ehlert was a perfect way to incorporate rainbows into the celebration of Springtime. After reading the story, some of the Robins made beautiful rainbow flowers.

Painting rainbows...

Sorting rainbow colored objects...

Building with color on the light table...

We even made rainbow toast by adding food coloring to milk...

We grew water orbs in the sensory table this week. We watched them grow as they absorbed more and more water. Even the grownups passing through our class couldn't help but stick their hands in. These things are so cool!

Wishing all the Kidspace families a wonderful Spring Break!

Robins - March 19th - 23rd

Here are some highlights from this week in the Robins' class...

This week we talked a lot about Spring, which felt kinda silly when it started to snow!

It didn't feel much like Spring outside, but we transformed the dramatic play area into a beautiful springtime garden.

Even the kid's artwork this week screamed "Spring is on its way!"...

The letter of the week was "Q" so we made Q collages, wrote our names with quills, and made Quesadillas!

Thanks for reading!

the three little pigs

"P" is for pig.  This week the Robin's class made pig
masks using paper plates and pink paper.

Each mask was as different as the child that made it.  Which provided  lots of different types of pigs in the room.

This impromptu play was narrated and put on by the children.
What fun it was to watch the story unfold.

Here the children acted out the story, The Three Little Pigs.

Each child had the opportunity to
portray one of the pigs in the story, while wearing their own mask.  Miss Crystal was the big bad wolf.

Amazing actors and actresses.  Take a bow.

Until next time,
