The Stinky Cheese Man Was on the Loose!

This week was at Kidspace was all about fables and fairytales. The Iguanas started out the week by reading the story of the stinky cheese man who is a lot like the infamous gingerbread man, except that he is made out of stinky cheese.

We decided to make our very own stinky cheese man out of goat cheese!

The Iguanas even got a chance to smell & taste the "stinky" cheese...

We were so busy sampling the stinky cheese, we didn't even notice that our stinky cheese man had made a run for it. We knew we had to capture him, so we made wanted posters and told all our Kidspace friends to be on the lookout...

Next, we went out searching for him. We looked everywhere!

We found him!!!

The stinky cheese man was successfully captured!

Iguanas - July 2nd - 6th

Here are some of the highlights from the Iguanas' class this week...

Happy 4th of July!!!

We were ALL about red, white, and blue!

Red, white, and blue paintings...

As with most preschool painting projects, this quickly became and exercise in finger painting and color mixing! :)

Stars & stripes collages...

In preparation for our 4th of July parade, the Iguanas made lots of patriotic crafts (hats, streamers, batons, tambourines), but this one was by far our favorite!

Iguanas on the move...

The Rocket's Red Glare...

This week we studied a little bit about space & rockets.

Rockets made from paper tubes...

Two iguanas collaborate to complete a space puzzle..

Space sensory play...

Water Day!

We started out water day in the classroom by filling our sensory table.

We added fizzy color tablets and watched the colors change!

Later in the day, we headed to the field for an afternoon of slipping, sliding, & sprinklers. Woohoo! One Iguana remarked, "Best day EVER!"

Thanks for reading! Until next week,

IGUANAS - ROCKET EXPERIMENTS

outside science
What will happen when you put a little water in a film canister and add an Alka Seltzer tablet?

They fly to the sky!  We learned about pressure and exertion.

Miss Katie is an experience rocketeer and came to our rescue when we had a few duds. Thank you Miss Katie

IGUANAS - ABSTRACT ART

This art project as a time of free drawing while Miss Julie was reading a story by Dr. Suess.

After the students finished drawing, they took their art to the painting table and used water paints to add color to their previous black and white drawing.

After the paintings were dry, Miss Julie and Miss Crystal cut the all pictures into three equal pieces.

Next each child randomly chose three pieces and pieced them together to make one new piece of art.

This was fun for the children, yet it stretched and challenged many of them for a couple of reasons.  First of all, it gave the children a different glimpse of art.  Art doesn't have to be perfect and orderly.  The children learned about "abstract" art.  Secondly, the children had to let go of their painting in order to create new "abstract" art with their friends.   The children learned that for some projects, "together is better!"

Enjoy, Miss Julie and Miss Crystal

PICNIC IN THE PARK

LUNCH IN THE PARK DAY
Today was our first Wednesday in the park.  It was a beautiful day and the kiddos had an amazing time.

Everyone loves to swing!  It's often hard to wait for a turn.  The students
n the Iguana's class have it worked out  a solution that works for everyone.  Together they sing the alphabet song three times and then they switch.
Great working together Iguana's!!!

LUNCH TIME.  There is something wonderful about a good picnic lunch in the park with the sun shinning on your face.  Everyone had fun time.  We look forward to many more picnics in the park this summer.

Iguanas - June 25th - 29th

Welcome! The Iguana's summer is off to a great start. Here are some of the highlights from last week...

Baking Soda & Vinegar Explorations....

At circle, we experimented with using baking soda and vinegar to blow up a balloon. It took us a couple of tries, but we finally got the balloon to inflate (a little bit).

Afterwards, each Iguana had an opportunity to use colored vinegar and trays of baking soda to explore on their own.

Pizza parlor dramatic play...
The kids had a blast and it was really fun to watch the children take on so many different roles (pizza maker, server, cashier, delivery person, customer).

More Science & Sensory Play...
This week the Iguana's grew "water crystals" in a sensory table. Our crystals started out looking like rock salt, but as they absorbed the water they turned into jelly like crystals the size of ice cubes. The Iguanas excitedly watched them change....

Bounce House Day!
