Robins - February 13th - 17th

It's been another exciting week in the Robins' class. We've spent the last couple weeks counting down the days until Valentine's Day and on Tuesday it was finally here!

We celebrated by passing out valentines.

Some of the families helped the children make valentines. Thanks again to all the families that helped out!

The Robins had a plan for a Valentine's feast and our families made it happen. Thank you! We had apples, grapes, cookies, and strawberry milk. Yum!

This week the Robins practiced working in pairs by creating collages together. Each pair took turns fulfilling different roles - one kiddo would be the director and get to try and use their words to describe where they wanted the pieces placed, while their partner would be responsible for making it happen. When they were satisfied with their art they would trade places.

We reviewed the letters of the alphabet that we've learned (A-L) by making alphabet art on the warming trays and playing ABC games at circle time.

The letter of the week was "L" for Lion. We learned some cool facts about the king of the jungle and even went on an "animal safari."

Thanks for reading! Until next week,

Robins - February 6th-10th

It's been another wonderful week in the Robins' class! Take a look...

The letter of the week was "K". At "circle" the kids tried to use their carpet squares to form the letter "K". These pictures don't do it justice...they did a great job!

Valentine's day is almost here! The Robins have been counting down the days until their party. This week they decorated bags for their friends to leave valentines in.

Valentine's Day math! Counting, sequencing, & sorting ...

Heart shaped puzzles...

We made our very own rhyming heart books...

This Valentine's Day sensory table was a huge hit...

We made a new batch of playdough, but this time we added cocoa to the mix. The children decided the dough smelled great, but they wished it had been a better color. They enjoyed "baking" different things with the mixture...

We did some more experimenting with ice. This time we used cold water, hot water, and salt water. The children tried to guess which would melt the ice the fastest. The Robins traced their names and then added their guess to a graph. We found that hot water worked best and that salt water actually took the longest.

This week we played some games using a giant parachute. First the Robins tried to work together to bounce balls up and down by moving the parachute in unison. Next, they took turns crawling under the parachute to try and discover whcih of their classmates were playing the drum.

The Robins are great at working together!

They work together to build...

Later in the week, some kiddos the used the same parachute to build a giant tunnel in the gym. Everyone contributed their ideas and in end they came up with something they all liked.

Team relay races are tons of fun and they give us a chance to work together in teams..

One day a group of children started to disagree about a project in the sandbox. Half of the children wanted to make an "ice rink" and the other group wanted to have a restaurant. The children talked through the problem and found a great solution...they made a restaurant that had an ice rink in the middle!

Thanks for reading!
Until next week,

BLUEBIRDS - E is for Elephant

We introduced Edgar the Elephant to the children.  He joined our other animal letter friends:  Leo the Lizard, Tom Turkey, Freddy the Frog, Francis the Fish, and Patty the Pig.

The children have practiced making the letter "E" using the wooden sticks from our writing curriculum and practiced writing the letter "E" on individual whiteboards.

The children have also been practicing the ASL sign for the letter "E."

Have you looked at our elephant bulletin board with your child?

Art and science were integrated into the making of these amazing animals.  The children were given black and white paint.  They discovered GRAY!

After the paint was dry the elephants were cut out and mounted onto the colored paper (children's choice).  The children then practiced their cutting skills by cutting grass for the elephants to stand on.
Please take a moment to look at the BLUEBIRD elephant bulletin board.  The children were focused and did an amazing job on their elephants from color mixing to cutting!

An Elephant Goes Like This (action rhyme)
An elephant goes like this and that.
(sway body back and forth)
He's terribly big,
(hands up high)
And he's terribly fat.
(hands out wide)
He has no fingers
(fold fingers)
And he has no toes,
(fold fingers)
But goodness gracious, what a long  nose!
(make a curling motion away from nose)

Robins - January 30th - February 3rd

It was a short week in the Robins' class, due to conferences, but here's a look at what we've been up to...

The letter of the week was "J"...

At circle, each child picked an item out of a bucket filled with sand. Would it be something that started with H? I? J?

Return of the flubber...

Geoboards help us understand geometric shapes and give our fingers a workout...

The Robins love to paint & this week we threw some letters into the mix...

Later this week, we did some more exploration with creating our own colors...

We talked about ice and why it melts. Next, the Robins did some experiments of their own to see what made ice melt the fastest. Cold water? Warm water? Salt? And, what if they wrapped the ice in foil or wax paper, would it make the ice melt slower or faster?

Thanks for reading! Until next week...
