Robins - March 19th - 23rd

Here are some highlights from this week in the Robins' class...

This week we talked a lot about Spring, which felt kinda silly when it started to snow!

It didn't feel much like Spring outside, but we transformed the dramatic play area into a beautiful springtime garden.

Even the kid's artwork this week screamed "Spring is on its way!"...

The letter of the week was "Q" so we made Q collages, wrote our names with quills, and made Quesadillas!

the three little pigs

"P" is for pig.  This week the Robin's class made pig
masks using paper plates and pink paper.

Each mask was as different as the child that made it.  Which provided  lots of different types of pigs in the room.

This impromptu play was narrated and put on by the children.
What fun it was to watch the story unfold.

Here the children acted out the story, The Three Little Pigs.

Each child had the opportunity to
portray one of the pigs in the story, while wearing their own mask.  Miss Crystal was the big bad wolf.

Amazing actors and actresses.  Take a bow.

Until next time,

Robins - March 12th-16th

What do all these items have in common? They all begin with the letter of the week....P!

In honor of the letter, "P", we made pig masks and acted out the story of the 3 little pigs. We had so much fun! Afterwards, the kids were invited to create and act out their own versions of this classic story.

Even snack time presents opportunities for learning. This week we challenged the kids to make each letter of the alphabet out of pretzels. We were very impressed!

Our worms are doing great! This week we observed the worm farm and drew our observations.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Green sensory tubs...

Green playdough & shamrock cut outs...
Shamrock marble painting...

 Counting shamrocks...

The Robins made guacamole...not a traditional St. Patrick's day food, but very fun to make and oh so yummy!

On Friday, there were signs that a leprechaun had visited Kidspace in the night, so we went looking for him!

We never did catch a glimpse of the leprechaun, but we discovered he had hidden a pot of gold in our playground!
Thanks for reading! Until next week,

Octopus anyone?

Have you ever seen an octopus through a magnifying glass?

On this day the Robin's got the chance to touch a baby octopus  and then use a magnifying glass to really
see all of it's different features.

The Robin's learned that an adult octopus has 8 legs and that each of these legs contain 240 suction cups.  They also learned that octopuses have 3 hearts and blue blood.  Great week of learning, kiss your brains.

Now, on to the eating of the octopus.....
Yes, you read right, eating.

First, you dip the octopus in milk then coat it with a flour and bread crumb mixture.

These boys had fun dipping and coating  the octopus. But when it came time to actually eat the octopus.
Well, that was a different story.  Out of 18 Robin's, 5 of them asked for seconds and thirds.  The rest of the class decided they would rather look at the octopus through the magnifying glass than eat it.
Great week Robin's

Robins - March 5th - 9th

It's been a really exciting week in the Robins class! Take a look...

The letter of the week was "O" for Octopus. The children incorporate the animal into a variety of play and learning.

Making books about sea creatures...

There are many authors in the Robins' class...

Some children used wooden blocks to create an "octopus house."

With the help of a school ager, the Robins got to help put the new sand in our indoor sandbox. They were thrilled to be the first ones to play in it!

We had some beautiful weather this week, so the Robins spent lots of time outside...

WORMS!
We started learning about worms this week. Each Robin shared some information about worms with the class and some even brought in different types of worms for the class to observe.

We made worm paintings..

We even started a worm farm!

Thanks for reading! Until next week,
