Iguanas - July 23rd - 27th

Here are some highlights from this week in the Iguanas' class...

Animal Antics

We read the book "Swimmy," in which a group of small fish swim together as one big fish. After, we made swimmy collages.

Go fish!

Rainbow fish...

Rainbow water orbs offer a unique sensory experience...

Animals frozen in ice cubes!? The Iguanas tried many different ways to free the creatures...

This week we read many of Mo Willems books about that wacky pigeon, including "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus," "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late," & "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog." These books are so much fun to read, and we knew we had to find an art project just as fun....handprint pigeons! Some of the Iguanas enjoyed making these so much that they made 4 or 5!

Also, this week we were lucky enough to attend a rockin performance by The Alphabeticians. Check the flyers in the sign out book to find out  when & where they're playing next. They were tons of fun!

Thanks for reading! Until next week,
Miss Crystal, Miss Julie, & Miss Rachel

Iguanas - July 16th - 20th

This week was all about creativity & imagination!

We read the book, "It's Not a Box" and spent the whole week using our imaginations to turn ordinary cardboard boxes into houses, forts, cars, rocket ships, and more. Never underestimate the power of a young child with a box, some tape, a pair of scissors and some markers!

We even made some wooden boxes to take home! The Iguanas really enjoyed getting to hammer the nails on their own.

All this talk of imagination and creativity led us to discuss wacky inventions. We put a twist on one of the inventions we found and created one of our very own: Toothbrush Popsicles!

We also looked at some very useful inventions. We brought in a variety of household gadgets and had the kids guess what they might be used for.

Of course, the best part was getting to try them after! We used a cheese grater to grate soap and then added some water and used an egg beater to whip the soap into bubbles! What kinds of gadgets could your Iguana explore at home?

Experimenting with magnets and water....

BJ The Clown....what a blast!

One of the most exciting things this week was our first trip to the library! The Iguanas did such a great job walking there!

The librarian was very impressed by their great circle manners.

After story time, the Iguanas got to explore the children's section and do some reading. We can't wait for our next visit!

Thanks for reading! Until next time,

Iguanas - July 9th - 13th

Here is a look at what the Iguanas have been up to this week....

This week was all about fables and fairytales! As some of you may already know, we created a stinky cheese man that ran away and had to be captured. In his honor, we held a cheese tasting in our classroom. The Iguanas tried 4 different kinds of cheeses (Havarti, muenster, provolone, and pepper jack) and graphed which on was their favorite. Much to our surprise, pepper jack cheese was the definite favorite! You can take a look at the graph hanging in the middle room, to see which one your Iguana liked the best.

We made magic wands...

Here we are acting out the story of the 3 little pigs.

Making "3 Little Pig" finger puppets..

Putting on puppet shows...

We read the story of "The Little Red Hen." Afterwards, we made bread sticks from scratch! The Iguanas were able to get involved every step of the way, from making the dough to watching it rise and rolling out the dough. This was tons of fun & yummy too!

Here we our writing our very own fairytales...

We leanred a new way to use bendaroos...

Relaxing & playing cards...

 Picnic in the park...

Happy snow cone day!

The Iguanas love to read!
Just take a look at our summer reading board, and you'll know that its true! Each day the Iguanas excitedly work on filling up their summer reading sheets. We hope that you will share in this excitement at home! Reading before bedtime is a great way to help your Iguana fill in a reading sheet at home! Extra sheets are located at the front desk near the sign out book.  :)

Until next time,

Miss Crystal, Miss Julie, & Miss Rachel

The Stinky Cheese Man Was on the Loose!

This week was at Kidspace was all about fables and fairytales. The Iguanas started out the week by reading the story of the stinky cheese man who is a lot like the infamous gingerbread man, except that he is made out of stinky cheese.

We decided to make our very own stinky cheese man out of goat cheese!

The Iguanas even got a chance to smell & taste the "stinky" cheese...

We were so busy sampling the stinky cheese, we didn't even notice that our stinky cheese man had made a run for it. We knew we had to capture him, so we made wanted posters and told all our Kidspace friends to be on the lookout...

Next, we went out searching for him. We looked everywhere!

We found him!!!

The stinky cheese man was successfully captured!
